Drafting Supplies: The Art of Drafting
Drafting, a technical drawing in scale, is an essential part of the building process. All of the blueprints for any project, be it a building or a piece of machinery, help bring the project to life.

When looking at drafting supplies, you must first know what process you prefer. Hand drawn drafting is technical and requires a great deal of patience and attention to detail. For hand drafting you will need triangles, preferably clear plastic ones, protractors, T-squares, and some basic curve templates. Special pencils with 2H or higher leads will be needed as well as vellum paper. Drafting desks that tilt will also be a lifesaver for those long hours. Lettering sets and a certain amount of skill will be needed for freehand lettering.

Computerized drafting saves valuable hours and produces a quality product. Computer hardware and software is expensive, but will pay for itself in the hours that are saved compared to hand drafting. Computerizing your drafting process will also allow your drawings to be sent electronically. You will need a computer including a large enough monitor to create and view drawings without eyestrain, specialized software such as AutoCAD, and basic computer skills.
