Powder Coatings: For Protection and Durability
Powder coatings are in demand in construction sites for a number of reasons. This emerging technology is increasing in popularity because it is so durable and economical. Powder coatings are a “dry” process as opposed to “wet” mediums such as paint. Powder is applied to the surface of the object to be coated and then passed through and oven to cure the coating to a smooth finish.

There are several different kinds of powder coatings. Thermoset coatings will not melt once they are cured. A good example of thermoset powder coating is acrylic. Acrylic finishes are tough, easy to clean, and new technologies have decreased the “yellowing” effect that was once an issue with powder coatings. Thermoset coatings make up the bulk of the powder coatings market. Thermoplastic powder coatings are different and used for different purposes. Examples of thermoplastic coatings are vinyl and nylon. Enamel coatings also use a powder process that is fired or cured at extreme temperatures. Powder coatings are also environmentally sound as there is less waste produced in the manufacturing process. Powder coatings are used in appliances, machinery, building, and other types of construction.
