| Soil Testing Equipment: Getting the Right Equipment |
Today’s ecologically minded community is demanding more and more regulation where construction is concerned. Soil testing and water testing is only a small part of the ecology-related areas that construction professionals need to be mindful of.
If you are building on a new site, chances are you will have soil testing done as part of your pre-construction phase. Most soil testing is fairly simple, which involves checking for metals, waste material, lead and other harmful substances. Contaminated soil is often removed from the site and taken to a designated disposal site. Contaminated soil should not be reused as filler or foundation due to the risk of its contaminants seeping into a water source.
You may want to hire a soil consultant, someone whose area of expertise is in construction soil testing. There are labs that do just this and depending upon the growth level in your area, you may have one nearby. If you are interested in small samplings from the site, a hand held testing unit may be sufficient. Many companies put out these units for reasonable prices and if you are doing a great deal of these smaller samplings, it may be worth the investment to purchase one.
